Daily Dose of Vitamin C – MAC’s Morange

Jessie J’s choice of lipstick for The Voice on Saturday night was a hotly discussed topic on Twitter.  It was juicy, it was bright, and honestly, it had to be mine.

After a few minutes Twitter sieving I found the shade ‘Morange’ from the ever reliable MAC.  Now, I’m not one for casinos and bets, but gambling with lip colour, well, that’s something I do on a regular basis.  Saying that, even I had second thoughts when I saw the swatch:

That’s about as orange as orange comes.  Was I really ready to risk it?  You betcha.

After waiting what seemed an age for my little MAC parcel to arrive (to be fair, this did mean my lips were primed beyond belief, thanks to my new Lip Ritual: see here) I tore it in two and out burst my prize.

I fell in love instantly – a regular occurrence with lipsticks.  ’Morange’ has a much bolder edge to it, titling towards a neon.  There’s the minimal hint of a red, which helps to ensure it doesn’t look too smudged – a problem I’ve found with other orange/corals in the past.  Against my super pale skin it really stood out, this is a shade to wear without bronzer, adding another rust tone to the face would be overkill; a small hint of coral on the eyes would work well though, so long as you kept your skin natural.

I found the perfect nail colour for a matchy-matchy look, ‘Elle Orange’ by Mavala, it was a freebie with Elle a while ago, I’ll shed a little tear when it runs out.

What do you think?  Will you be trying any bold colours this season?

  1. Love the post! Even though i wear red and plums sometime, i feel like orange would look a bit ‘off’ on me, if you know what i mean? I am really curious about trying one though! :)
